Enough: Saying no to
hype
Life is less stressful and generally happier when we quit wanting more
to make it happier. It means that we are content, as we should be, with
ourselves and what we have.
To
always be wanting more is self-defeating for we are then in a constant
state of anticipation and frustration, always hoping and waiting for
happier times.
There is probably already enough for most of us to be satisfied with
our lives. There is life itself and everything that is natural around
us. We just have to look and take it in. Walk in the park and see,
hear, and smell the surroundings. Enjoy friends and family. Money has
not been proven to bring true happiness.
It’s easy enough to turn off the hype that persuades us to want and
‘need’ more. If nobody is watching TV why not turn it off. I find
commercials so easy to mute now that I have my thumb resting on the
mute button when I am watching.
By
not being in the market for that new or better thing we don’t have to
devote any attention to commercials and advertising in general. It’s
easy to say no to persuasions if they are not in front of your face.
By
wanting less we can spend less time working and have more time for home
and family. A reduction in mental stress will probably be an added
benefit that will make this time even more enjoyable.
"Think of what you have rather than of what you lack. Of the things you
have, select the best and then reflect how eagerly you would have
sought them if you did not have them." - Marcus Aurelius (121-180)
